Together with a group of photography friends I crossed the threshold into a real life fantasy world for the first time ever! That was this year September at “Elfia Fantasy Fair“. As a child I could dream up beautiful fantasies but they were all make believe or in my dreams, but this was REAL! A small kingdom had been created in the castle gardens of Arcen (Limburg province – the Netherlands). The place where people can live and be their fantasy figure for a weekend, all dressed up and make believe-real life. The Fantasy world transforms into a dream -kingdom and comes alive twice a year. The costumes, theatrical makeup and attributes were out of this world, incredible so real that some nearly had you believing they were existent creatures or figures. All kinds of imaginary people walked together or with each other in groups: Gnomes walked next to steam punkers, fairies along with magicians, Alice in Wonderland figures next to outer world princesses, space invaders next to knights, vampires and reptilian figures, Hobbit’s, Grinch’s, Harry Potters and self fulfilling thought-up fantasy figures. Wow….! Fantasy Fair is also the place to be seen, to show and to act your part and for photographers the ultimate Valhalla. The interaction between photographers and fantasy figures was one of respect, happiness, posing and playing the part. For me as an amateur photographer I felt I had landed as a cherry on top the cake. Slightly shy I would ask if I could take a photograph and to my astonishment everyone agreed and did as I asked, gradually I dared to be slightly more daring. Here an impression of my photographs taken in Arcen.
